Duphalac solution contains lactulose, an osmotic laxative. It draws water into the bowel to soften stools and treat constipation. It is also used under medical supervision in hepatic encephalopathy.
Directions for use:
Adults (constipation): start with 15 to 45 ml a day, then reduce to 15 to 30 ml a day for maintenance. Take as a single daily dose or split into two doses. It may take 2 to 3 days to work. Can be mixed with water or juice. Doses for children and for liver conditions should be set by a doctor. Not suitable for people with galactosaemia.
